Pātai / Questions
Why vote for me?
Deep Historical Insights
I am 10th generation in this community and now raise my family here. From my days growing up here, been educated here and having worked all over Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, I have gained valuable insight and experience into the communities unique character and needs.
What do I bring to the local board?
Independent Voice
As board member of Māori and Pākeha ancestry, I bring a bicultural perspective and a commitment to genuine partnership for locally led solutions. I believe I represent an important part of our community in Ōrākei and I am not politically aligned.
My deep understanding of Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi allows me to guide the board in making decisions that are not only effective but also culturally safe and respectful. I provide direct insight into community needs and champion a long-term, intergenerational vision focused on kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and manaakitanga (care for others).
Do I have the necessary skills?
Collaborative and Constructive
I've collaborated with agencies and Council departments to deliver real outcomes, from fixing local infrastructure to improving community well-being and addressing environmental risks like flooding and Waitematā contamination. My project management experience ensures a focus on clear communication and collective problem-solving, allowing us to proactively manage challenges and adapt to change together.
What am I involved with in the community?
Proven Community Advocate
I actively participate in welcoming new citizens from around the world at Citizenship Ceremonies. Through my work with my iwi, I provide essential cultural support and guidance for business openings, building inaugurations, and other civic events. As a passionate paddler, sailor, and kaitiaki (guardian) of the Waitematā, I am deeply involved in local environmental restoration projects.
Who do I represent?
Kaitiakitanga (Guardianship)
The core Māori value of kaitiakitanga, or guardianship motivated me to be a guardian of the entire community and its environment, which includes all people. By running in the local board voting system, I am fulfilling this duty of care and service for the whole collective. This grounds my political decision in a deeply held cultural value, demonstrating that my commitment to the broader community is an extension of my Māori & Pākeha identity, not a contradiction of it.
What experiences have I had that will add value to the local board?
I've walked the talk
As a builder, educator, and small business owner and Project Manager, I have direct, real-world insight into how policies affect people and businesses every day. I have also served on local school board and iwi and community boards for consecutive terms. I listen and I'm committed to taking action and delivering results.
