52 warm, dry homes for seniors in our community!

Today marked a positive opening of 52 one-bedroom rental apartments, designed specifically for older tenants. As part of Haumaru Housing’s network - a partnership between Auckland Council & the Selwyn Foundation.

Wyllis Maihi from Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei who blessed and opened the event for us and acknowledged the whenua the building was built on.

Demand has been high, with all 55 new residents due to move in by the end of August.

Developed in collaboration with Kāinga Ora, Auckland Council including formerly Eke Panuku and the Ministry of Housing & Urban Development, the construction of Greenslade Court was completed in near record time over 12 months.

Located at Greenslade Crescent Northcote – the new building is ideally situated for older people.

Each unit incorporates a range of accessibility features, and the development includes a secure mobility scooter storage area and charging facilities. A community lounge with outdoor patio area also provides tenants with a dedicated space for socialising and shared activities.

This is exactly where this sort of housing makes sense, it’s across from the Northcote Town Centre, library, parks and community facilities that have been or will be upgraded soon.

They’re on routes that have frequent bus services including the recently improved 94 and 924 services to get to the City Centre, Takapuna, Birkenhead, and the 928 to Northcote Point Ferry, Smales Farm and North Shore Hospital.

Plus the homes look over the newly created greenway network Te Ara Awataha and the redeveloped Greenslade Reserve which are great for recreation and now protect the area from flooding.

It was awesome to chat to new tenants who are excited to move in and met many of the people involved in this build.

Thanks to everyone who has had a strong vision for the future of Northcote to get us here, big thanks to locals who are embracing change even when it’s hard and the biggest thanks to all the workers who designed, built and made this place a stunning new home for many.

It looks exactly like the plans and pictures which hardly ever happens!! (from Richard Hills FB Post)
